Higher and Technical Education Minister Rushikesh Patel on Wednesday launched the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal, while using which students will be exempted from paying registration fees in different universities during the admission process. Students can apply in all colleges affiliated to the 14 state universities by paying one-time registration fee of Rs 300, he added. “This will put an end to the confusion among students of choosing suitable course and the preferred university or college. Lack of information often leads to the mistake of taking admission in the wrong course. It is the job of this portal to simplify the process by providing the best opportunity from the available options,” said Patel. Applicable from the 2024-25 academic session, the state government had announced the common admission portal last November. Through the portal available in both English and Gujarati, students will be able to apply for more than 7.50 lakh seats across 2,343 government, private, grant-in-aid, affiliated colleges for undergraduate, postgraduate as well as PhD programmes applicable to the 14 state universities.
