Feeling stung by the Cobrapost allegations that he was willing to write a recommendation letter for a fictitious Australian oil and gas exploration firm,Congress MP from Jamnagar Vikram Madame on Friday retorted that it is a conspiracy of some corporates to kill my political career.
Speaking to The Indian Express over phone from Jamnagar, the two-time MP alleged that the Cobrapost reporter was a blackmailer and a cheat.
The reporter called me up from his cellphone twice after 10 am yesterday for bargaining but I told him to do whatever he wants, Madame said.
However,Madame admitted that he was approached by the reporter twice in December last year and offered money.
When he first met me,he told me he was working for an Australian firm and wanted my recommendation letter to get clearance for exploration of oil and gas in coastal Jamnagar. He also offered to pay Rs. 6 lakh in return for the favour, said Madame.
He alleged that the reporter was sent by some corporates to falsely implicate me in a fictitious case.
However,he did not specifically name the hands of the corporate behind the sting.
It is the first time that such an allegation has been levelled against me with a view to tarnish my image and kill my political career, he alleged.
Cobrapost website has named 11 MPs from different parties who had allegedly agreed to sign recommendation letter for the fictitious company on monetary considerations.
