Coast Guard’s motorcycle rallies to spread awareness on coastal security flagged off

Border Security Force (BSF) and the Navy took out joint motorcycle rallies from three places on Monday.

With an aim to raise awareness about security issues among people living on the coastline of Saurashtra,the Indian Coast Guard (ICG),Gujarat Police,Border Security Force (BSF) and the Navy took out joint motorcycle rallies from three places on Monday.

The rallies were taken out from Koteshwar in Kutch,Jamnagar and Porbandar in the morning. S K L Nanda,additional Chief Secretary (Home),and Kuldip Singh Sheron,Commander of North-West region of ICG,flagged off the rallies simultaneously from Koteshwar,an official release said.

“Around 60 personnel of the four forces are taking part in the rally in three phases. They will interact with fishermen and other people living in major hamlets along the coastline over various aspects of seafaring,” S S Dasila,ICG Chief Staff Officer (operations),said.

The first phase of the rally from Koteshwar will cover Jakhau,Chhachhi,Mandvi,Mundra and will culminate at Tuna on Tuesday. The second phase from Jamnagar will culminate in Porbandar after covering Vadinar and Okha ports. The third phase,launched from Porbandar,will come to an end at Bhavnagar after halting at Madhavpur,Mangrol,Diu,Veraval,Pipavav and Alang. “Fishermen are an integral part of our coastal security architecture. They are our eyes and ears as generally they are the first to observe any specious movement along the coastline,” Dasila said.

The slogan of the rally is: “If you see something,say something.”

The event is part of the community interaction programmes of the ICS,the release added.
