Coast Guard rescues boat sinking off Okha coast

The fishing trawler, made a distress call between 7 am and 8 am while their boat was operating some 70 km off Okha.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has reportedly rescued a fishing trawler and its crew after the boat started sinking off Okha coast in Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat on Wednesday morning.

Coast officers said crew of Shree Sai Ram, a Porbandar-registered fishing trawler, made a distress call between 7 am and 8 am while their boat was operating some 70 km off Okha. The Coast Guard Station of Okha responded to the distress call and pressed hovercraft H184, which was patrolling in the area, in the rescue operation.

“There was flooding in the engine-room of the fishing boat. We pressed a hovercraft and another patrolling boat in the rescue operation. The fishing boat and its crew have been rescued. We are awaiting further details,” inspector general Kuldip Singh Sheoran, commander of Coast Guard Region (North-West) told The Indian Express over phone from Gandhinagar.

The commander added that the Coast Guard headquarters (NW), in Gandhinagar was yet to get details like exact number of crew on board the trawler Shree Sai Ram.
