Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday inaugurated a “fulfilment centre” for online delivery of prasad from Ambaji temple in Banaskantha district.

The prasad will be delivered at the doorstep of a devotee within seven to 10 days of placing the order, “to devotees residing in remote areas of the state and abroad”, a government release said.

Those ordering the prasad will also be able to “track its status” , it added.

Banaskantha Collector Varunkumar Baranwal, also the chairman of Arasuri Ambaji Mata Devasthan Trust, was also present at the event along with Patel.

A year ago, a controversy had rocked the temple – one of the 52 Shaktipeeths – when the government decided to replace mohanthal with chikki as offering, as the latter had a longer shelf life. The decision had to be revoked after the VHP launched protests as did the Congress. Now both chikki and mohanthal are offered as prasad at the temple.

Ambaji temple witnesses over 125 lakh pilgrims visiting the shrine every year. The CM also inaugurated a ‘Panchha Shri Shakti Nari Sashakti Kendra’ near the temple town and interacted with local tribal women. The centre trains and employs rural women in skills such as pottery, sewing, incense making and khadi production.

He interacted with the women trainees there and presented certificates to them. “The chief minister guided women, emphasising the importance of ‘Atmanirbharta’ (self reliance) and leveraging government assistance schemes for economic empowerment,” a statement said.
