CM Anandiben Patel directs AMC officials to improve conditions of roads

Patel directed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials to complete the works on a war-footing.

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel expressed concern over the bad condition of roads in the western part of Ahmedabad on Friday. Patel directed the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials to complete the works on a war-footing.

Patel took stock of civic works progress in the New West Zone covering Assembly constituencies of Sabarmati, Vejalpur and Ghatlodia. Only local MLAs and state government and senior civic officials were present at the meeting while all corporators were not invited, sources said.

“Councillors were not invited in the meeting but told to co-ordinate our issues with local MLAs who would present them before the CM in the meeting, so that CM’s time was saved. We are happy that she came down to Ahmedabad, so what if we could not meet her,” said a councillor of Vejalpur Assembly constituency when asked what transpired at the meeting. The meeting was held in-camera in New West Zone office.

Municipal Commissioner D Thara said the Chief Minister’s main advice during the review meeting was that work should be done in a well-coordinated manner and not in bit and pieces. “You should be transparent and concentrate on quality work, complete pending works on a war-footing,” Thara said quoting the Chief Minister’s advice.

She said since it was a review meeting at the Chief Minister level, it could not be that everything was goody-goody. “There may be mix of some critical points and some good points. She had many words of advice for the civic administration. She asked us to improve our performance in areas like road repairs and finishing other pending projects in a comprehensive manner,” Thara said.

Sabarmati MLA Arvind Patel was particularly concerned about construction quality of anganwadi houses in the city. He had pressed for change in structural design of anganwadi houses, for better quality. “She agreed with my suggestion and issued immediate instruction to incorporate the changes,” Patel said. The main thrust was on transparency and focussed attention on development projects, he said.
