The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Saturday declared its Class X exam results, recording the highest-ever pass percentage of 82.56 — a jump of nearly 18 per cent from last year, when the figure registered was 64.62 per cent. The Class XII general stream examination results of GSHSEB, announced on Thursday, too had recorded the highest-ever pass percentage of 91.93. Among the 6,99,598 regular students who appeared for the Class X exams – held between March 11 and 22 at 981 centres across the state — 5,77,556 passed. "This is the highest-ever pass percentage recorded by GSHSEB Class X so far," said Board vice chairman Dinesh Patel. Asked about the reason behind such a show, GSHSEB Chairman Banchha Nidhi Pani told The Indian Express, “Like in the case of Class XII, for Class X exams too, the number of objective questions was increased by 10 per cent – from 20 per cent to 30 per cent.” He added that students were also given a general option to choose a few questions they wanted to answer from a list of questions, unlike previous instances where they had to attempt each question that came with choices. Meanwhile, the result of Class X Gujarat State Open School (GSOS) exams, which was also announced on Saturday, saw 30.63 per cent candidates clearing the exam. Last year, the figure was 13.09 per cent. According to the GSHSEB Class X results, girls outshone boys by registering a pass percentage of 86.69, as against the 79.12 per cent recorded by male students. Against 6,111 students last year, 23,247 students secured the highest of A1 grade and 78,893 bagged A2 grade. Results of 400 students suspected of copying have been reserved by the Board. Also, in an increase from last year's 272 schools, 1,389 schools registered 100 per cent success rate this year and 264 schools recorded below 30 per cent success rate. In 70 schools, no students cleared the exam – this is less than half of the number recorded in 2023 when 157 schools had registered 0 per cent success rate. With 10 schools each, Dahod and Junagadh districts recorded the highest number of schools that witnessed a pass percentage of 10 per cent. Rajkot and Kutch with 116 and 100 schools, respectively, saw the highest number of schools with a pass percentage of 100. Among the 33 districts of Gujarat, Gandhinagar registered the highest pass percentage of 87.22, while Porbandar registered the lowest at 74.57. Examination centres at Dalod in Ahmedabad district and Talgajarda in Bhavnagar that recorded 100 per cent pass percentage. The lowest at 41.13 per cent was recorded by Tad in Bhavnagar. The pass percentage of Basic Maths was the lowest at 83.4, while Standard Maths recorded the highest pass percentage among subjects at 99.45. Moreover, students who failed to qualify in one subject declined from 41,279 to 21,869 this year. The figure for two subjects dropped from 74,538 to 32,971. As many as 21,854 students failed to clear three subjects. For the first time, the Board had this year allowed students to re-appear in three subjects and not repeat their academic year if they failed to clear them. Earlier, one could only re-appear in two subjects. If one failed in three subjects, the student had to repeat a year. Further, students in English medium schools secured the highest pass percentage of 92.52, followed by Gujarati medium (81.17) and Hindi medium (75.9). Among other mediums, Odia recorded the highest pass percentage at 92.41, followed by Sindhi at 88.
