Class-I GAS officer dies by suicide in Ahmedabad, note addressed to family found

A Class-I Gujarat Administrative Service (GAS)-cadre officer died by suicide at his quarters in Ahmedabad’s Vastrapur, police said on Thursday, adding that a note has been recovered.

The deceased, identified as Mansukh Popat Pujara (57) was posted in the Finance Department at the Sachivalaya in Gandhinagar. He was found dead at the quarters allotted to him by the government, on Thursday morning, police said.

H M Kansagra, ACP, ‘B’ Division, said, “The officer’s driver arrived to pick him up at 10 am on Thursday. When he did not answer his calls, the driver went to the fifth floor of the quarters to check on him. He said the door was open and the officer was found dead in the drawing room. The driver then informed the security staff, who in turn alerted the police.”

“Police also found a note. Some parts of it were typed and printed, while some were written by pen later. The note, addressed to his family, has details about important documents. It also mentions the details of people who he has asked his family to get in touch with for help with necessary procedures after his death,” ACP Kansagra further said.

The body has been handed over to the elder brother of the deceased who also lives in Ahmedabad.

Pujara’s wife passed away several years ago. His son and daughter-in-law live in Mumbai.

An Accidental Death (AD) report has been filed, police said, adding that an FSL team has carried out requisite examinations.
