Around four persons were injured as violent clashes erupted between two communities in Nani Dhari village on Sunday evening during funeral of the victim girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in her residence.

Police said the trouble began while the last rites of the girl were being performed. “Some people came in two vehicles and they broke open doors of a few houses,leading to the violence. Three to four persons from both the sides have been injured,” Amreli District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shobha Bhutda said.

Sources claimed a few policeman also sustained minor injuries as they tried to control the mobs.

Meanwhile,two motorbikes parked outside residences of the two suspects,Sanjay Vala and Bhabhlu Vala,were set on fire by irate mobs. “However,enough security arrangement has been made at the residences of the suspects. We have beefed up police deployment in the village and the situation is under control,” Bhutda further said.

But three injured persons alleged they were attacked by the other group with swords and other sharp weapons while they were returning from the funeral. But police denied this.

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Amreli for treatment and three of them were reportedly referred to Rajkot for further treatment.

“Leaders of one of the two communities from Saurashtra will gather at a sammelan in Amreli on Monday and shall submit a memorandum to Amreli district collector demanding security for the community,” Shyamal Mehta,president of Parshuram Yuva Sanstha,an organising community in Amreli,said.
