Civic body orders inquiry into irregularities in sanitation work

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) Assistant Municipal Commissioner (East Zone) has been directed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations made by a former municipal councillor regarding the irregularities in sanitation works in the city.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) Assistant Municipal Commissioner (East Zone) has been directed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations made by a former municipal councillor regarding the irregularities in sanitation works in the city.

The inquiry was instituted on Thursday evening after Hasmukh Rana, former councillor from Ward 2,complained to Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) C M Makwana about the irregularities in drainage cleaning works.

“Those who are supposed to clean up the choked drainage lines were charging Rs 100- 150 from the residents, which is illegal. The matter was brought to the notice of the ward officials, but no action was taken. That is why we decided to take the matter to higher authorities,” said Rana.

According to the residents, instead of doing their job promptly, the sanitation workers first demand money from them.

Even after getting the money, they fail to clear the choked drainages, which results in unhygienic conditions across the entire area.

“It is a matter of serious concern if such things are actually happening. To verify the same,I have asked the Assistant Municipal Commissioner (East Zone) to conduct an inquiry and find out the truth,” Makwana said.
