A Week after suspected chikungunya cases were reported from Dungripura village of Savli taluka, the panchahyat has taken strict action on cleaning up the village and filling up the ditches.

The department has, till date, detected 11 cases of fever and 20 cases of joint pain. The Health Department has further pointed out that ditches dug outside every household for collecting water is the root cause of rampant mosquito breeding, and routine reports of vector-borne diseases.

But the villagers have protested against the move, saying that their traditional way of collecting water will be jeopardised. When the sarpanch visited the village on Thursday,he reemphasised on the need to fill up the ditches.
