The move to declare HSC science and general streams results on the same day by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) resulted in chaos at various schools here on Thursday. While state Education Minister Ramanlal Voras scheduled press conference was cancelled, several teachers and parents resorted to demonstration, accusing the board of mismanagement. The authorities,on their part, said the results were announced together to make up for the delay due to the elections and facilitate the students to take admission in higher education institutes. But the arrangements hardly helped,as the mediapersons could not get results booklet. Later,Vora said,The online admission for technical courses has already started. This year,we were already behind the schedule due to the elections. So,we merged the result dates to avoid any further delay in the admission process. The minister admitted that many schools could not distribute marksheets among the students due to procedural delay. At Diwan Balubhai Secondary and Higher Secondary School, where the results were to be distributed to 400 schools from the district, the authorities were kept waiting till the afternoon. Teachers and principals from across the district staged a demonstration outside the office to register their protest against the delay. Officials at the school administrative office locked it from inside to void any untoward incident. Also, the police were called in to control the situation. Hansmukh Adhia,Principal Secretary,Education, the delay could be due to some human error. It is only incidental that the result dates were merged this year, he added. Principal of the Diwan Balubhai Secondary and Higher Secondary School, however, passed the buck to the GSHSEB,saying this was boards arrangement. Deepak Trivedi, principal of a Sanand school, who had been camping at the centre since early morning, said: We were supposed to hand over the results to our students at 11am. It is already 2pm and the results have not even reached the centre. We have received reports of protests by the parents at our school. Trivedi further said the school staff members were already burdened with the job of preparing various certificates like school-leaving,and the delay made it impossible for them to distribute the results today. Another teacher at the centre emphasised on the need for having separate windows for handing over results of different streams. But here, everyone has to stand in the same queue, he added.
