Coming down heavily on the UPA government for allegedly misusing CBI against its political rivals,BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said on Saturday that the demand for handing over the case to CBI came from the UPA government itself.

The UPA government has maintained that the CBI was investigating into the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case following a Supreme Court directive.

Prasad, who was in the city on Saturday to address a seminar on Kashmir problem, said: “The attorney general had raised the demand for a CBI investigation into the case.

He quoted from an apex court judgment which read: “When the matter came up for hearing before this court on May 17,2007,the Attorney General of India submitted before us that it was a fit case where this court should pass an order directing for CBI investigation.”

Calling the investigations made by CBI in the case as ‘mala fide’,Prasad said he has got a copy of the chargesheet filed in the case, which discussed the role of police officers from Gujarat and Rajasthan but did not mention about Andhra Pradesh police. Prasad said: “Let CBI explain when the Attorney General makes such a prayer before the Supreme Court that the role of police of all the three states is to be investigated. But the chargesheet doesn’t mention anything about the role of Andhra police.”

He said the Centre is trying its best to destablise the Modi government in Gujarat and shielding those accused in NHAI scam,Commonwealth Games and 2G scam, which is worth Rs 60,000 crore. On whether Narendra Modi would campaign in the forthcoming elections in Bihar,he said the Bihar unit campaign committee would decide on the matter.
