CBI seeks custody of suspended cops

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought custody of suspended police officers — Narendra Amin and V A Rathod — for 14 days in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought custody of suspended police officers — Narendra Amin and V A Rathod — for 14 days in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

The duo was presented before the CBI court of Magistrate V B Barot on Friday. Contesting the CBI’s plea,they filed separate applications to grant them 10 days’ time to hire lawyer to argue on their behalf.

CBI lawyer L D Tiwari opposed the demand to grant them 10 days time to hire a lawyer.

He argued that the CBI is investigating the case under the direction of the Supreme Court and that it has been granted six months to submit its report.

Following the arguments,the court posted the matter for May 12. By that time,the two will have to hire their lawyers.

Amin (suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police) and Rathod (suspended inspector) were arrested by the Gujarat CID (Crime) on charges of being part of the criminal conspiracy to kill Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi. After being subjected to the custodial interrogation of the CID,the duo is lodged in the high security Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad.
