Amidst protests by farmers against acquisition of their agricultural land,NHAI and district administration of Junagadh continued survey for constructing a new bypass road for National Highway 8D near Junagadh on Thursday. As officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and district administration of Junagadh resumed measurement survey for the proposed bypass in Galiawada and Virpur villages,hundreds of farmers started protesting. However,police,who were protecting the officers and surveyors,detained more than 100 farmers. The farmers,many of them women,were whisked away to two different police stations in Junagadh city and were released in the evening. The protests had started Tuesday when the JMS began near Vadal village and 146 farmers were detained. Another 106 agitating farmers were detained from near Shapur village on Wednesday. The farmers are demanding that instead of constructing the new bypass from Vadal to Shapur,the exiting bypass should be widened.
