Claiming that some political parties were “trying to protect infiltrators and undermine the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls underway in the country, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the people’s mandate in the recent Bihar election was one against infiltrators who “pollute our democratic processes.”

Shah was speaking at the 61st Raising Day parade of the Border Security Force (BSF) held in Bhuj, Kutch, Gujarat.

He said, “The BSF is trying to stop infiltration. It is not only necessary for the security of the nation but to stop the democratic system from being polluted by infiltrators. Unfortunately, some political parties are trying to undermine the process of removing these infiltrators. Those political parties are also protesting the process of SIR being conducted by the Election Commission. I want to make it clear that we will remove every infiltrator from this country. Only an Indian citizen can decide who will be the Chief Minister of a state and the Prime Minister of the country. No infiltrator has the right to pollute our democratic systems and influence elections.”

Urging people to support the SIR process, he said, “I want to tell the political parties trying to protect infiltrators that the Bihar election is a mandate of the people of this country and that mandate is against the infiltrators. Those trying to protect infiltrators must know that the people of this country will never support such intentions.”

During the ceremony, Shah pinned medals on a large number of BSF officers and personnel. The BSF was raised on December 1, 1965. Since then, Shah said that BSF had seized 18,000 kg worth of drugs worth Rs12,95,000 crore in total till date. A total of 2013 personnel have lost their lives in the line of duty not only on the Indian borders but also in UN missions, against terrorists and naxalites. The BSF today has 193 battalions and a total strength of 2.76 lakh personnel and officers. It protects the 2,289-km border with Pakistan and 4,095-km border with Bangladesh.

On Operation Sindoor, he said, “Recently, there was a cowardly terrorist attack backed by Pakistan on tourists in Pahalgam. Our unarmed tourists were asked about their religion and killed. The Prime Minister decided that a “muh tod jawab” would be given. And when the answer was given during Operation Sindoor, we gave a limited response but Pakistan interpreted our attack on terrorists as an attack on them and when the Pakistan Army began its movement, the BSF left no stone unturned in giving them a response. Within a few days, because of the actions of the BSF and Army, Pakistan declared a unilateral ceasefire and because of that, it became clear to everyone in the world: Do not mess with Indian borders and forces or they will have to face the consequences.”

He added, “Nine premises of the Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) including headquarters, launch pads and training camps were destroyed. The aim was to destroy terrorists and secure the safety of our citizens. During this operation, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Imtiyaz Ahmed and Sipahi (soldier) Deepak were martyred in the line of duty.”

Reiterating that the end of the current financial year as the deadline for elimination of Naxalism from India, Shah said, “The day is not far when this country will be free of the scourge of Naxalism. Our resolve is that by March 31, 2026, we want to free the country from Naxalism and open the roads of vikas for our adivasi (tribal) brethren. Instead of the dreams of the armed naxalites being fulfilled, that of having a ‘red corridor’ from Tirupati to Pashupati, this entire area will be made secure, and put on the road to development. In Chattisgarh, the BSF has aided in the surrender of 127 Maoists, arrested 73 of them and neutralised 22 of them.”
Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi and Kutch MP Vinod Chavda, among others, were present at the function. BSF DG Daljit Singh Chaudhary also addressed the gathering.

On BSF Welfare, Shah said, “There are three issues in soldier welfare: health services, housing satisfaction ratio and extended duty hours. We have taken several initiatives to solve these issues but for the BSF, I want to assure you that the next year, will be dedicated to the modernisation of the BSF and welfare of its personnel and families… The next one year, will be spent on BSF welfare, of the jawans and their families. The MHA had decided the BSF will be modernised so that, in the next five years, it becomes the most advanced and capable border security force in the world. I want to assure the family members of BSF jawans that the Government of India under PM Narendra Modi will not leave any stone unturned in your welfare.”

On a new project of advanced border surveillance, the union minister said, “We have been reinforcing the border fence for some years now and the e-border suraksha has completed the trial stage and the concept will soon be launched. We will try to launch it on the ground in the next one year and in five years the entire land border will be covered under this programme.”

On Kutch and its people, Shah said, “The people of Kutch, for centuries, in spite of harsh/adverse environment, and conditions, have not only survived, but thrived here. From the 1960s, in every attack on the country, the people of Kutch have faced it all. In many wars, the people have walked in lockstep with the Army and BSF to secure our nation.” He also mentioned the women who repaired the airstrip in the 1971 war.

He said, “I have travelled across the country and in many places that have suffered earthquakes, their presence is felt after three, four and five decades. But I say with pride that the people of Kutch have not only come out of the trauma of the earthquake but has become 100 times more developed.”

Morbi BJP gets new office

Later on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new office building of the BJP’s Morbi unit.

Addressing a gathering in Morbi, Shah said, “Today, with more than 2/3rd majority, people of Bihar have formed a government under the leadership of Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar…Those who were earlier talking about waning power of NDA and BJP must listen. In Tamil Nadu and Bengal too, BJP and NDA will form the government,” Shah said.

Launching an attack on Congress party and its alliance partners for opposing SIR, Shah alleged that at the beginning of the election period, Rahul Gandhi had carried out a rally “in support of infiltrators.”
