BJP panel captures APMC in Ahmedabad again

The BJP-led panel has once again captured power in the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee in Ahmedabad,which recorded a turnover of Rs 1,162 crore during the last financial year.

The BJP-led panel has once again captured power in the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Ahmedabad,which recorded a turnover of Rs 1,162 crore during the last financial year.

The BJP panel led by Dascroi MLA Babubhai Jamnadas Patel,who has been heading the APMC as its chairman for the last four years,won 12 of the total 14 seats,including seven from farmers category,three from traders and two from the cooperative societies category. Of the remaining two seats,one went to Congress’s Pankaj Patel from the farmers category while one from the traders category went to an Independent.

Thanking the voters,Babubhai Jamnadas Patel said they elected the BJP panel because of its good work ever since APMC got an elected body in 2004.

Earlier,chairman and other office-bearers of the APMC were appointed by the state government and they were all government employees.

A total of 737 voters including representatives of village agriculture cooperative societies from villages in Dascroi taluka and in city areas of Ahmedabad and registered licensed tranders in seven markets under APMC in Ahmedabad city had cast their votes on Friday to elect the members. The results were declared on Saturday.
