The state BJP may contest the next Assembly elections from a new swanky headquarters in Gandhinagar, construction for which is in full swing.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who ensured construction of Mahatma Mandir in just 180 days,is now leading the mission to complete the state-of-the-art new headquarters building on the airport-Gandhinagar road near the Koba circle in the next six months,so that the party can shift the historic Khanpur office in Ahmedabad to Koba before the elections.

The project, spread over 11,705 square metres at Koba village,is being carried out under the cover of BJP-run Shree Kamalam Trust, which is funding and managing the project. Modi and senior office-bearers of the state BJP are trustees of the organisation.

While most senior leaders refused to divulge details of the project,a leader close to the CM said that total project cost will be around Rs 40 crore as the plot cost them around Rs 19 crore. Ahmedabad-based P C Snehal Construction Company has been given the contract.

“Land was acquired from an Ahmedabad-based person a year ago. The present Khanpur office is now considered too small and reaching there sometimes is very difficult due to heavy traffic. The CM had suggested constructing a new headquarters considering present and future needs,” party sources told The Indian Express.

Gandhinagar district collectorate sources confirmed the land acquisition. They said that the trust has got all the clearances, including the non-agriculture (NA) certificate. The plans have also been approved by the Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA).

While Gujarat BJP president R C Faldu could not be contacted,a senior party leader said,“There will be different units. One will be for the office-bearers,one for the trust and there will be a guesthouse also. There will be a centrally AC hall where 400 to 500 workers can seat besides two seminar halls. Once the new HQ becomes functional, the Khanpur office will be converted into city unit office.”
