The state Congress Wednesday sought a vigilance inquiry into the illegal occupation of a reserved plot of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Saijpur ward.

The land,measuring 4,500 sq metre,has been occupied by a BJP leader. Congress leader Badruddin Shaikh alleged that a BJP leader had not only occupied the land,but also built structures on it,receiving a monthly rent of Rs 2.25 lakh.

“In all,there are 56 structures. While 16 are pucca houses,40 are tin-roofed. They have been rented out by Ajmal Desai,” Shaikh alleged,putting the value of the land at Rs 15 crore.

“The space was reserved for the construction of Neighbourhood Centre,” he said. The land in question is on final plot no. 48 in town planning scheme no. 47 around which a boundary wall has also been built illegally.
