BJP kicks off membership drive in state

The drive will go on till March 31 next year.

The BJP launched its membership drive in the state Sunday with Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and state president R C Faldu signing for the party membership. The drive will go on till March 31 next year, following which applications will be scrutinised before preparing a final list. BJP national vice-president and in-charge of Gujarat unit Dr Dinesh Sharma would not divulge the target.

According to sources in the party, it would be more than 43,81,831 primary members and 1,33,374 active members. Sharma, the in-charge of the all India campaign, said the membership target would be set to make the BJP as the largest political party with highest number of members all over the world, going by the 17.07 crore votes its candidates polled in the 2014 LS elections. Sharma was in the state for the first time after his appointment as state unit in-charge. He said he had found Gujarat BJP organisation as an example to learn from by other state units.     ENS
