‘Bhatt used Anhad computer to hack into law officer’s email account’

A Day after activist Shabnam Hashmi claimed that the city Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) had picked up and questioned three employees of her NGO Anhad because she filed a complaint against some BJP members for allegedly posting obscene comments on her Facebook account, police said on Thursday they suspected suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt of using one of the computers at the NGO office to hack into additional advocate general Tushar Mehta’s email account last year.

“Last year itself, the DCB had identified five IP addresses that Bhatt used to hack into Mehta’s yahoo account. Only the cyber crime wing of DCB can now ascertain whether these IP addresses were of Hashmi’s computers or not,” a police officer said.

He,however, refused to answer why the DCB did not take action for a year if it had already identified the IP addresses allegedly of computers at Anhad.

Meanwhile,Bhatt claimed the DCB or local police never questioned him after they tracked the IP addresses.

“If the DCB had evidence that a computer at Anhad was used to hack Mehta’s email account, what took them one year to act?” Hashmi said, adding that DCB did not even informed her officially why her colleagues at the NGO were picked up and questioned.
