Banaskantha monk murder accused held at Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch on Friday arrested the man who allegedly murdered the chief of Mukteshwar Math in Banaskantha.

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Friday arrested the man who allegedly murdered the chief of Mukteshwar Math in Banaskantha. The DCB handed over one Rajendra Singh alias Rajen Barad,a native of Motasada village,to Banaskantha police on Saturday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police M D Chavda said: “He was absconding for a long time and was wanted by the Banaskantha police. We have only assisted them in his arrest. They will now ascertain the details of the case”.

Rajen is believed to have murdered monk Sanjaygiri of Mukteshwar Math in 2008. On January 13,he had escaped from police custody at Palanpur.

On Friday,the DCB got a tip-off about Rajen coming to a temple near Commerce Six Roads in Ahmedabad. The police then laid a trap and arrested the accused. Rajen’s car,some cash,a wristwatch and other valuables worth Rs 4,14,689 were also seized. He has been arrested under Section 302 of IPC and Sec 41 (A) of the CrPC.

The police added that Rajen was seized with cash,his car,a writ watch and other valuables worth Rs. 4,14,689. The DCB has seized him under CrPC Section 41 (A).
