Rajkot on Tuesday recorded the highest day temperature of the season so far at 42.1 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees above normal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heat wave alert for Kutch district till April 11.
However, the IMD also forcast that parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat are expected to get a respite from the heat between April 14 and 16.
Other areas which recorded high temperatures included Deesa at 41.6 degrees Celsius and Bhuj at 41.4, both three degrees above normal. Surendranagar recorded a maximum temperature of at 41.3 degrees Celsius. Ahmedabad recorded a high of 40.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Gandhinagar at 40.5 and Vadodara at 40.4, which were 2 degrees above the normal temperature.
For April 14, the IMD predicted light rain in the districts including Surat, Navsari and Valsad along with Gir Somnath in Saurashtra. On April 15 and 16, light rain is very likely in the districts of Dahod, Narmada, Chhota Udepur and Gir Somnath.
