He immediately jumped into the canal to save the boy and girl, both schoolchildren.
With the help of other people gathered there, the ASI pulled out the students from the water, saving their lives.
The incident took place around 1:30 pm at Nabhoi Canal on the road from Koba Circle to Indira Bridge under the Infocity Police Station limits.
The teenagers were later taken to ‘Jeevan Aastha Kendra’, a mental health centre run under the Suraksha Setu of the Gandhinagar Police, for counselling. Later, they were handed over to their parents.
Retired police inspector Pravin Valera, who works with Jeevan Aastha, told The Indian Express, “The students, who said they are in a relationship, engaged in a verbal duel over some issue. The fight escalated to the point where both jumped into the canal. Luckily, they were saved with the joint effort of the ASI and other passerby. They were provided counseling, and their parents were given guidance on how to further seek help for their children.”
