Ahmedabad serial blasts accused Safdar Hussain Nagori has once again scored over Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case accused and suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara in Value Education and Spirituality MSc programme.
The two,lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad,and 77 other inmates of various prisons from across the state will be given certificates for completion of their respective courses though distance learning at the second such convocation to be held at the Sabarmati jail on Monday.
Last year,49 prisoners were conferred with degree and diploma certificates.
Harshad Rathod,serving life imprisonment for murder at the Sabarmati jail,has topped the course with 82.8 per cent marks.
Nagori has secured the second rank with 82.4 per cent while Vanzara has received a distinction (less than 80% and above 75%).
Last year,they had completed diploma course in the same subject in which Nagori had scored over Vanzara.
Patan gangrape accused Atul Patel has topped the diploma course this year with 82.33 per cent marks.
This is our rehabilitation programme. These inmates are made to go through the universal core of all the religions. These courses teach them to understand different religions of the world that helps in making them liberal towards all the religions and faiths. Our focus is to help these prisoners so that they can evolve and grow, said P C Thakur,Additional DGP (Prisons).
The distance learning courses are offered free of cost by Annamalai University and Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya,Mount Abu.
A number of officials from these universities are likely to be present in the jail on Monday.
