The Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly,Shaktisinh Gohil, today asked Chief Minister Narendra Modi to appoint Lokayukta instead of taking “political mileage” from the Anna Hazare-led movement against corruption. Gohil said the CM was avoiding to appoint a Lokayukta because then the cases of irregularities and misappropriation by the government would be exposed. He added that the state was overflowing with corruption from illegal allotment of huge tracts of land to industries to misappropriation of government funds. The Congress leader said that a committee led by the Chief Justice of Gujarat had long back recommended the name for Lokayukta and submitted it to the Governor. Subsequently, the Governor submitted it to the government but the CM was sitting on it and not taking any decision,he alleged.
