The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) run Urdu medium primary schools do not have sufficient number of teachers that is affecting the fundamental rights of the students,a public interest litigation (PIL) has stated before the Gujarat High Court,while demanding a direction to the state authorities to recruit sufficient number of teachers in these schools.
Acting on the PIL,a division bench of the HC comprising of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala has issued notice to state Education Department and AMC while posting the matter for further hearing on September 12.
The petition has been moved by one Mohammed Kamil Ansari. According to Ansari,there are 44 lower primary schools in Ahmedabad that impart education in Urdu medium. And these schools have 12,972 students. So,as per the provisions of the of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (Right to Education Act),these schools should have 396 teachers. However,these schools have 354 teachers,a shortfall of 42 teachers.
There are 39 upper primary Urdu-medium schools in Ahmedabad where 7,507 students are studying. These schools have sanctioned 237 teachers. But the actual strength of teachers is 129,a shortfall of 108 teachers.
