AMC warns people of ‘fake raids and extortion’

After unearthing of a gang that used to conduct fake raids and extort money from people,the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a warning against such gangs.

After unearthing of a gang that used to conduct fake raids and extort money from people,the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a warning against such gangs.

An advisory issued recently from the municipal medical officer (health) AMC Dr S P Kulkarni has told people to ask for authorisation from such persons before believing them.

In the advisory,Dr Kulkarni said a gang was caught recently which would run a bogus organisation in the name of “Consumer Protection and Analytic Committee”. Its members would visit people running small businesses and introduce them as the ones officially authorised by the government to conduct raids,issue notices and take legal action against malpractices in business.

Inspector V D Brahmbhatt of Odhav police station said he had caught a four-member gang in Odhav area.

“The gang members would offer to strike a deal with the owners to avoid court action,” he said.
