No passenger flight will operate for 45 minutes from the Ahmedabad airport on November 19 as the airspace will remain closed for an air show by the Surya Kiran team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to celebrate the Cricket World Cup Final slated to be held at the Narendra Modi stadium. The final is also likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia Richard Marles, sources said.

A senior government official said that PM Modi is most probably going to attend the final match and possibilities are there of Australian Deputy PM joining Modi during the match.

“PM Modi is most likely to come for the match. We have not got his schedule, but he is most likely to come for the match. And possibilities are there of Australian PM too joining him (Modi),” said a senior government official.

The airspace over Ahmedabad was also shut from 1.25 pm to 2.10 pm on Friday, as the Surya Kiran team was holding a practice session. According to a defence ministry spokesperson, the IAF team is expected to hold a similar practice session Saturday.

A statement from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport notified the passengers that the airspace will remain closed from 1.25 pm to 2.10 pm on November 19 due to the air display by the Surya Kiran team.

The IAF team, consisting of nine aircraft, will hold a 10-minute air show before the cricket match begins. The aircraft will also conduct a fly past as the National Anthems are sung in the stadium, the officials added.

The Ahmedabad airport has about 43 stands of which 15 have been allocated for non-scheduled flights which include business jet aircraft operations. The remaining parking space is for scheduled flights for which the airport has issued an advisory asking passengers to “allocate additional time for travel related formalities and mandatory security protocols” for November 19.

The airport has also prepared a Standard Operating Procedure for non-standard parking of aircraft in case demand for night parking exceeds the availability of stands for standard parking.

The Ahmedabad airport has also coordinated with neighbouring airports for accommodating visiting aircraft at adjoining airports for night parking if the demand for night parking exceeds.
