Ahmedabad: In A Hurry

After the government issued a notification on Thursday, stating that Professor Rajul K Gajjar has been appointed as the vice-chancellor (V-C) of Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad – the state’s biggest technical university – Gajjar was seen taking charge as the V-C the very next day. Sources in the government said Gajjar, who was the principal of L D Engineering College, was asked to reach GTU to take charge on Friday morning itself. It looked like even the staff at GTU was not prepared for her arrival. As Gajjar sat inside her new V-C office at GTU, the staff was seen hurriedly removing the name plate of the in charge V-C, Professor Pankajray Patel, from outside the office. The appointment came seven months after the position became vacant.
