The arrest of a 48-year-old bootlegger in Ahmedabad Thursday sprang a surprise when his car was found equipped with a GPS jammer to prevent cops on his trail. The accused, Bhavanisinh Solanki (48), a resident of Sanchore in Rajasthan, was apprehended at Nikol by the Ahmedabad crime branch.
He was caught with 360 liquor bottles worth Rs 2.69 lakh and driving a Nissan car with GPS-tracking enabled. The accused has been booked under various provisions of the Gujarat Prohibition Act and sent to a day’s police remand.
A search of the car revealed “a charger-like device that turned out to be a GPS jammer,” which disallows GPS-tracking, said police inspector JH Sindhav.
