Adani Ahmedabad Marathon tomorrow, over 20K may participate

The marathon will see more than 20,000 participants, the organisers said. Apart from the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10-km run and 5-km run, the seventh edition will also see a special wheelchair category.

The Adani Ahmedabad Marathon 2023, which will be held Sunday, will be flagged off by Indian former cricketer Mithali Raj and Gujarati actor Malhar Thakar.

The marathon will see more than 20,000 participants, the organisers said. Apart from the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10-km run and 5-km run, the seventh edition will also see a special wheelchair category.

Physician and cardiologist Dr Nehal Sadhu, medical in-charge for the event, said: “This is the first time that a whole medical team will be deployed at a marathon… we will be able to provide primary treatment to participants. On-call 108 ambulances, nursing and hydration centres will be available within every 1 km of the marathon route.”

A press statement said the Ahmedabad City police and the health department were “pivotal stakeholders” in the marathon — the second largest full marathon in India — that will see more than 2,500 officers from armed forces and hundreds of police officers taking part. A major part of the proceeds goes to the welfare of the armed forces, it added.
