Aam Aadmi Party(AAP), which had contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the state, has decided not to contest the local body polls that are going to be held in third week of December.
Party’s media coordinator Harshal Nayak said that it was a mistake on the part of the party to contest Lok Sabha polls despite the fact that the party did not have an organisational set up and proper infrastructure, which is vital for the success of any political activity, particularly when contesting elections.

“In Delhi, we had sufficient infrastructure to contest polls but it is not the same in Gujarat. We should have instead focused on building party organisation before contesting polls’,’ said Nayak, adding “we don’t want to repeat the same mistake again.”
“The party is not in a position to fight the local body polls owing to lack of party’s network in the state,” Nayak said.
He said that the party was currently engaged in setting up and strengthening its organisational network across the state keeping in view of the 2017 assembly elections.
Nayak said that the party’s Delhi MLA Gulab Singh Yadav had been assigned to set up its network in the state and he had been touring the state for the last two months meeting party workers and taking feedback.
“The state has been divided in five zones, with one coordinator for each zone for the convenience of political management of the state,” said Nayak.
He said that Yadav was working to set up party units in each of the assembly constituencies up to the booth level.
“You can not fight election unless you have party’s set up up to booth level”, Nayak said.
“Soon, we will have party units in all 182 assembly constituencies and 40,000 electoral booths,” claimed AAP leader.
Nayak said that the party was working hard to give a third alternative to the people of the state which was so far having only two political parties-Congress and BJP-and they had no other option.
