The Gujarat Police has seized 87,607 kg drugs worth Rs 16,155 crore and apprehended more than 2,500 suspects from various tip-offs within three years after the launch of the Narcotics Reward Policy, the state government said Thursday. Under the policy, informants who provide information that leads to the seizure of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, authorised officers who successfully seize illegal substances, and officers from other departments who assist in addressing violations of the NDPS Act are rewarded. Gujarat was the first state in India to implement a reward policy for informants, strengthening efforts to combat drug abuse, it added. Under the policy, the DGP Committee has approved rewards totalling Rs 51,202 for 64 people between October 2021 and December 2024. The ACS, Home-level Committee has sanctioned Rs 6.36 crore for 169 individuals, while a proposal to reward 737 people with Rs 5.13 crore has been submitted to the NCB Committee.
