6 held for vehicle thefts,chain snatching in Ahmedabad

The Naranpura police arrested six people in connection with motor vehicle thefts and cases of chain snatching,from the Ramapir No Tekro area in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

The arrested have been identified as Rahul Yadav,Nirmal Laraki,Bharat Thakor,Uttam Kale,Sanjay Talwari and Kalu Chilkligar.

Inspector B D Vaishnav said: “The arrested men were involved in major loots and chain snatching cases in Ahmedabad and had been on the run for many months. Three of them belong to the Chikligar gang,while one is from the Kale gang that was operating from Ramapir No Tekro for long.”

He added: “These people used to steal motorbikes and use them for loots and chain snatching. The two gangs did not work together,but both were involved in the same crimes. They have revealed more names during interrogation and more arrests are likely to follow.”

The police said the arrested men were involved in 100 vehicle thefts,nine chain snatching cases and five house breaks. They also committed over 100 petty thefts like cellphone thefts,bag snatching and the like. The police have booked them under offences of theft,chain snatching and loot and would interrogate them for five days.

2 motorcycle thieves arrested,35 bikes seized
The Ahmedabad district police last week arrested two motorcycle thieves and seized stolen vehicles from them. Already 20 motorbikes have been seized from rural areas that were stolen from the Satellite area in Ahmedabad. Another 15 bikes have been seized from Banaskantha district,which were stolen from Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad District Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh said: “Two accused,Tinu Khokhar from Sarkhej and Hussain Sheikh Fatehwadi from Juhapura area of Ahmedabad,were arrested.

They later confessed to having stolen motorcycles from Ahmedabad city and hiding them in Banaskantha and rural areas of Ahmedabad.”

The police added that a combing operation is still on in the rural areas.
