Six flights, with scheduled stoppages or destination at Mumbai airport, were diverted to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad due to incessant rain in Maharashtra on Wednesday.
The flights were accommodated at the Ahmedabad airport in spite of difficult conditions as the sky remained overcast across vast parts of state, said officials.
Of the six flights that were diverted, five were major passenger aircraft while one was a chartered aircraft. These flights were accommodated alongside the 235 scheduled flight movements (either take-off or landing) that took place at the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday, said a spokesperson.
Flight 6E1457 from Abu Dhabi to Lucknow was to have a scheduled stoppage at Mumbai but was diverted to Ahmedabad. Other flights with their destination in Mumbai that were diverted to Ahmedabad were flight AI656 Rajkot (Hirasar) to Mumbai, flight 6E864 Delhi to Mumbai, flight 6E1052 Bangkok to Mumbai and flight 6E5117 Ayodhya to Mumbai.
There was one non-scheduled charter flight from Vadodara to Mumbai that was also diverted to Ahmedabad airport.
