Vehicular movement on 40-year old Sandhiya Pul, the iconic railway overbridge (ROB) on Jamnagar Road of Rajkot, will be prohibited from May 22 for its demolition, Rajkot city police commissioner Raju Bhargava said Sunday. A new ROB will be constructed in its place. According to a notification, no vehicles will be allowed on Sandhiya Pul from Wednesday. The restrictions will remain in place until a new bridge is constructed in place of the existing bridge. As per the notification, two-way movement of two-wheelers will be allowed from Special Home for Boys to Airport garden via Bhomeshwar railway crossing for accessing Jamnagar Road. Cars, ambulances and other light vehicles coming from Civil Hospital Chowk and going towards Madhapar Chowkadi on Jamnagar Road will be allowed to take the Bhomeshwar Plot road from near Special Home for Boys and will be allowed to exit on Jamnagar Road at Airport garden. Similarly, cars, ambulances and other light vehicles, coming from Madhapar Chowkadi, will be allowed to go towards Civil Hospital Chowk by existing Jamnagar Road and taking Railnagar Road near airport garden, and going towards Civil Hospital Chowk via Popatpara Main Road and Railway Station Main Road. These alternate routes will remain closed to heavy vehicles, buses of state transport as well as private luxury buses. State transport buses will have to go towards Madhapar Chowkadi from Busport via Amrapali Railway underbridge and Raiya Chowkadi.
