318 body parts, 100 mobile phones seized from crash site, says Police Commissioner Malik

A total of 318 body parts and around 100 mobile phones have been recovered from the crash site of Air India flight AI 171, said Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik while addressing a press conference on Thursday while providing updates on the investigation.

As of June 18, the authorities have collected 318 body parts from the crash site, which have been sent to the FSL lab for further analysis, said Malik. “Additionally, around 100 mobile phones in various states of damage have been recovered, and efforts are underway to extract potential videos or photos that may provide insight into the crash,” he added.

Malik clarified that the police role involves examining items found at the site, including phones, passports, and ornaments.

“The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the technical investigation, including analysis of the black boxes and debris reassembling with the assistance of Boeing technical experts,” Malik said.

Regarding the sole survivor, Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, Malik said that his mobile phone was “checked and returned, with authorities handling the situation sympathetically”. “Vishwas’s statement has been recorded for investigation purposes,” he said.
