3 held over stabbing factory worker to death in Surat

Two days after a 20-year-old powerloom factory worker was allegedly stabbed to death in Surat during a bid to snatch his mobile phone, police Friday said they have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

According to police, Sunny Chauhan, a resident of SUDA Sector 2 at Sachin who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was stabbed to death by one of the three robbers who tried to snatch his mobile phone when he returning to the factory after attending nature’s call.

Based on a complaint by Sunny’s elder brother Sanker Chauhan, police had lodged a case against three youths at Sachin Police Station under IPC sections 302 (murder), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), and 114 (abettor present when an offence is committed).

According to police, the accused gang had snatched mobile phones from two other persons in Sachin GIDC area. Based on CCTV footage, collected from different areas of the city, police traced the three youths.

Police said that on Thursday evening, they arrested Satyamsingh alias Golu Radheyshyamsingh (21), a resident of Ganeshnagar in Pandesara, and recovered a bike and a stolen mobile phone and knife used to stab Sunny Chauhan from his possession.

During questioning, he disclosed names of two other accused and told police that they are on their way to Mumbai in a train. Sachin police immediately contacted Vapi GRP police and shared photos of two other accused.

Vapi Railway GRP police caught both the suspects and on Friday handed them to Sachin police. They were later arrested and identified as Vikash alias Saurabh Chaturvedi (21) and Rohit Yadav (18), both residents of Ganeshnagar in Pandesara.

Talking to The Indian Express Sachin police inspector R R Desai said, “We will produce the trio before court and get more details from them. All the three accused are working in different textile factories.”
