The bus carrying 44 members of an extended family in Ahmedabad met with the accident on Wednesday.At least 22 people were injured, including an 8-year-old boy who suffered critical injuries in a hand and a leg, after their bus tipped over the side of a highway into a valley in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan.
The bus, carrying 44 members of an extended family in Ahmedabad, was on its way back from the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, said police officials in Rajasthan.
The incident took place at 12.15am on Wednesday.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Sub Inspector Preeti Ratnu of Charbhuja police station said, “The incident took place at the ghaati (valley) at ‘Desuri ki naal’. While the reason for the bus falling off the road is currently under investigation, at least 21 people suffered minor injuries and an 8-year-old boy suffered critical injuries in the accident.”
Located in the Aravalli hills, the valley extends between Desuri village in Desuri taluka of Pali district and Charbhuja village in Kumbhalgarh taluka of Rajsamand district.
This road extends all the way to Gujarat and has seen a number of accidents in the past, according to local news reports.
The police officer further said that the passengers were treated at a hospital in Udaipur before their family members arrived and moved them to Apollo Hospital in Ahmedabad.
The Indian Express attempted to reach out to Apollo Hospital but their representatives remained unavailable for comment.
PSI Ratnu said that a medico-legal case was made out in the incident.
The statements of the injured would be taken after their treatment is complete, she added.
