Three months after an Army officer lodged a complaint alleging forgery of documents for recruitment in the force, the Rajkot Crime Branch arrested 20 youths from Haryana late on Thursday. All them were produced Friday in a local court which sent them into judicial custody.
“Army authorities alert us that these 20 men would reach Jamnagar. So, we went there and arrested them on Thursday,” city police commissioner Mohan Jha said.
These are the first arrests in connection with the case of alleged bid for recruitment in the Army by producing fake certificates. An Army officer from Jamnagar had filed a complaint of forgery and cheating against 55 people with Rajkot Crime Branch in June. In his complaint, the Army officer had alleged that around 50 youths from Haryana procured forged certificates to pass themselves off as domiciles of Kutch district at an Army recruitment camp in Rajkot in February this year.
