2 Surat civic schools to have English medium in Class 1

Two schools under the Surat Municipal Primary School Board will start teaching Class I students in English medium from next academic session.

Two schools under the Surat Municipal Primary School Board will start teaching Class I students in English medium from next academic session. Municipal school board has also signed an MOU with nine parties to run the municipal schools under public-private model.

The English-medium classes will be operational in municipal school board-run School No. 176 at Vastadevdi road in Katargam and School No 227 at Marutinagar slums in the Limbayat area. At present, education in these two schools is done in Oriya and Telugu languages respectively. Board officials had done a survey in these areas a couple of months ago and got a good response to the idea of starting English medium in the area schools.

Municipal Primary School Board Chairman Rupin Pachhigar said,“We have been giving education in five different languages including Gujarati,Hindi,Marathi,Oriya,Telugu and Urdu. We thought that after clearing Class VII,students face difficulties in pursuing higher education. This led us to start English medium classes.”
