A day after he was arrested for allegedly misusing his engineer friend’s degrees to forge his own in order to obtain a job as the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) in 2011, a man from Ahmedabad was sent to a four-day police remand by a local court on Saturday.
Police Inspector JK Makwana of the Crime Branch said that the accused, Kapil Sharma, told them that he had actually obtained the job and even worked for the Metro for one-and-a-half years before leaving the company of his own accord. At that time, the company was known as the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA).
In this case, the complainant, Pankajprasun Dineshchandra Singh, a resident of Gandhinagar, filed a complaint against Sharma for allegedly tricking him into sharing his personal documents under the guise of starting a construction company in partnership.
Sharma was alleged to have obtained the complainant’s ID proof and BE Civil Engineering certificate besides mark sheet and other necessary documents. However, instead of using the documents for the stated purpose, Sharma allegedly forged fake degree certificates in his own name from Singh’s documents. He was further alleged to have also forged experience certificates on letterheads of various companies, said police.
The FIR filed by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) alleged that Sharma had, on the basis of these forged documents, applied for a job as the AGM of Ahmedabad Metro in 2011.
Sharma was booked under Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 467 (forgery of valuable documents), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using forged documents as genuine).
Sharma had earlier been booked in two cases at Palasia police station in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
