12 village officials axed in Panchmahals

Panchmahals district administration suspended 12 sarpanch and talatis (lokayukta),for not maintaining water supply in their villages despite funds being earmarked under the Swajal Dhara Yojana of the Gujarat government.

Panchmahals district administration suspended 12 sarpanch and talatis (lokayukta),for not maintaining water supply in their villages despite funds being earmarked under the Swajal Dhara Yojana of the Gujarat government.

According to a district information department communique,works were not carried out for Swajal Dhara Yojana. The village officials were of two villages of Lunawada taluka — Chandpur and Padhan,three villages of Godhra taluka — Angaliya,Vadelav and Mahulia,two villages of Santrampur taluka —— Godhar and Nani Kachar,two of Morwa Hadaf taluka — Kuwanjher and Parbiya, two of Kadana Taluka —Hathiranani Muwadi and Brahmani Muwadi and Naranpur village of Kalol taluka.

A Panchmahals district administration official said: “There was delay in the works for which villagers had complained. In some of these villages,the works were done only on paper.”

A meeting was held on Friday,in which District Collector Milind Torwane,passed an order stating that the talatis and village sarpanch were suspended for not carrying out the works which led to the drinking water crisis in the district.
