Stock Market Highlights: Sensex closes 4000 pts lower after staging partial recovery, Nifty settles below 22,000 mark

Share Market Live: At 7.68 per cent, or 3,954.00 points, Nifty Bank continues to hover near day's lows.

The index hit intraday lows at 46,077.85 while intraday high was hit at 50,667.05.

Share Market Live: India VIX, which fell nearly 15 per cent in the previous session, has advanced 24.98 per cent at 26.20. The volatility index eased from its intraday high of 31.71 as market participants digested election trends.

Share Market Live: Among 50 stocks that form the Nifty 50 index, only 7 stocks are trading in green with the remaining 47 in red.

With a gain of 140.70 points, or 5.97 per cent, Hindustan Unilever Ltd remains the biggest Nifty gainer.

With a loss of 18.80 per cent, Adani Ports remains the biggest laggard.

Share Market Live: IT major Persistent has tanked 94.00 points, or 2.74 per cent lower at 3,331.85.

The shares hit an intraday high at 3,455.00 while the intraday low was hit at 3,232.05. The shares closed at 3,425.85 in the previous session.

Share Market Live: Market capitalization of BSE-listed firms dropped by Rs 31 lakh crore to Rs 395.22 lakh crore. The market cap of these companies surged by record Rs 14 lakh crore to Rs 425.. 9 lakh crore on Monday.

As per trends emerging on the voting count day, the BJP-led NDA is poised to return to power, despite getting a weaker majority. BJP has inched closer to the 300-mark according to the latest trends. 

The INDIA bloc has put up a stiff contest this time, leading in at least 230 seats.

The BJP on its own is expected to gain around 230-240 seats, the trends showed.

Share Market Live: Shares of Adani Green Energy have tanked 314.95 points, or 14.90 per cent lower at 1,734.25 per equity share.

The stock hit intraday lows at 2,029.90 while intraday high was hit at 1,630.40.

Ashok Leyland opened for trade at 2029.90 while the previous close was recorded at 236.00.

Share Market Live: Shares of Ashok Leyland have tanked 28.45 points, or 12.03 per cent lower at 208.05 per equity share.

The stock hit intraday lows at 192.00 while intraday high was hit at 235.00.

Share Market Live: "The steep fall is due to the results so far falling short of the exit polls which the market had discounted yesterday. If BJP doesn’t get a majority on its own there will be disappointment and this is getting reflected in the market. Also it is possible that Modi 3.O may not be as reform-oriented as the market expected and may turn more welfare- oriented. This is getting reflected in the strength in FMCG stocks,” said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.

Share Market Live: Broader markets has tanked in line with Sensex and Nifty 50. Nifty Midcap 100 has tanked 6000 pts with Nifty Smallcap 100 down 2,078.45.

Nifty Midcap 100 is down 6,085 points, or 11.30 per cent lower at 47,338.50 while Nifty Smallcap has tanked 2,123.35 points, or 12.43 per cent lower at 14,979.55

The index touched intraday highs at 11,269.05 while intraday lows were hit at 9,665.45.

India VIX, or Volatility Index, has advanced 30 per cent in the session after tanking 15 per cent on Monday.

INDIA VIX has inched 7.21 points, or 34.38 per cent higher at 28.17.

Most PSU stocks are under free fall after trends suggest BJP may fall below 272 seats.

Sensex has shed 3,500 pts now with Nifty falling over 1,100 points.

Adani group's port operation company, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones (APSEZ), has tanked 237.60 points, or 15 per cent lower at 1,346.35.

The shares made intraday high at 1,558.00 and intraday low at 1,346.35.

Adani group's flagship company, Adani Enterprises, is the biggest loser of the day. The share price has tanked 439.15 points, or 11.93 per cent lower at 3,208.25.

India VIX, popularly known as the Fear Index or Volatility Index, has breached past 25 levels.

India VIX is trading at 4.84 points, or 23.40 per cent higher at 25.87.

Rising VIX indicates hightened volatility.

As Sensex and Nifty tanked due to below-the-expectation trends, all Nifty sectoral indices are trending in green.

All other sectoral indices are in red.

“Today, with Lok Sabha election results pending, markets are keenly watching for a potential historic third term for PM Narendra Modi and whether the NDA will exceed 400 seats. A favourable outcome could drive Nifty towards the 24,000 mark, while the 22,500 level remains crucial support,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd.

Shares of Adani Enterprises, the company's flagship firm have made some recovery after inching almost 10 per cent down. The shares are trading 230.30 points, or 6.36 per cent lower at 3,400.20.

In the early trade, shares were down 10 per cent to 3280.75 per equity share.

After being one of the biggest gainers on Monday on the back of exit polls, Adani group companies tanked today as early trends suggest a closer contest between the NDA and INDIA block alliance.

After slipping 15 per cent down on Monday as exit polls boosted market sentiments, INDIA VIX, popularly known as Volatility Index, has increased 18.05 per cent higher at 24.74.

An increase in VIX indicates heightened fear among market participants on election results. Investors have been betting big on the return of the BJP-led NDA government with a thumping majority.

INDIA VIX had hovered around 20 in the previous session.

Indian frontline indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 inched lower as early trends suggest below the expectations lead for BJP.

Sensex opened 183.00 points, or 0.24 per cent lower at 76,285.80 while Nifty opened 84.40 points, or 0.26 per cent in red at 23,179.50 

The early trends in various news channels suggest lead for PM Narendra Modi led NDA at around 300 seats. Opposition INDIA alliance is leading gains at around 200 seats. 

At the time of the opening bell, GIFT Nifty is trading 387.00 points, or 1.65 per cent lower at 23,080.00.

On the election results day, the Indian rupee opened weaker at 83.23 against the US dollar. The rupee closed on Monday at 83.14 against the American currency.

The dollar index, which measures strenght of greenback against six global currencies, is down marginally at 104.08.

With the counting of votes of electoral ballet, the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha Election 2024 began at 8 am. Early voting trends are suggesting a return of PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government. 

As per early trends on India Today, NDA leading with 246 seats with the INDIA alliance bagging 151 seats. As per News 18, NDA is showing 302 seats with the INDIA alliance trailing at 170 seats.

As market reaction on the exit poll numbers showed on Monday, participants are looking forward for policy continuity and smooth transition of the govt.

The counting of votes for Lok Sabha Election 2024 has kicked off with postal ballots at 8 am.

In the early trends, India Today has given BJP-led NDA a lead in 111 seats while the INDIA bloc stands at 67. Similarly, out of 363 seats, News 18 has shown NDA leading the counting 220 seats with INDIA Alliance trailing with 115 seats.

GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of Sensex and Nifty, has lost its early market gains to trade at a premium of only 17 points.

At 8:18 am, GIFT Nifty is trading at 17.50 points, or 0.07 per cent higher at 23, 532.50.

At the timer of opening, GIFT Nifty was trading 120 pts higher.

India Election Results Stock Market Live: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is looking to return for a third time. The victory for BJP will lead Narendra Modi to become the only Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to return for a third consecutive time.

INDIA Alliance, on the other hand, is looking to make its return after the alliance in its earlier form, UPA, lost power in 2014.

Lower crude oil prices are seen as positive cues for Sensex and Nifty. The rupee also gains strength on account of lower crude prices.

The OPEC+ agreed to extend most of their oil output cuts into 2025 but left room for voluntary cuts from eight members to be gradually unwound from October onward.
