His film career, launched by director K. Balachander in Manathil Urudhi Vendum (1987), saw him garner critical acclaim for his unique comedic style. This style, characterized by sharp one-liners and witty social and political satire, drew comparisons to legendary comedian N.S. Krishnan, earning him the moniker "Chinna Kalaivanar." His contributions were recognized with numerous accolades, including three Filmfare Awards for Best Comedian ( Run, Saamy, Perazhagan) and five Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Comedian (Unnaruge Naan Irundhal, Run, Parthiban Kanavu, Anniyan, Sivaji). In 2009, the Government of India bestowed upon him the Padma Shri, acknowledging his artistic contributions. Sathyabama University further honored him with an honorary doctorate for his societal impact through cinema. Beyond his cinematic achievements, Vivek was a prominent television personality, hosting events and conducting notable interviews, including one with A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Inspired by Kalam's environmental advocacy, he established the Green Kalam initiative in 2010, aiming to plant a billion trees across Tamil Nadu. Vivek's legacy rests not only on his comedic brilliance but also on his significant contributions to social and environmental causes.
