Thomas Chazhikadan biography

Thomas Chazhikadan, born on 25 September 1952 in Veliyannoor, Kottayam, is a prominent figure in Indian politics. He is a member of the Kerala Congress (M) and has served both as a Member of Parliament (MP) and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

He was born to Cyriac and Aleyamma Chazhikadan in the State of Travancore–Cochin, present-day Kottayam, Kerala. He pursued his education at Devamatha College, Kuravilangad, Kottayam, Kerala, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

His political journey began when he stepped into his brother Babu Chazhikadan’s shoes, who was the original candidate from Ettumanoor but was tragically killed by a lightning strike during the election campaign of 1991. He served as the MLA of Ettumanoor constituency from 1991 to 2011.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he successfully contested as a Kerala Congress (M) candidate from Kottayam for Lok Sabha. His victory marked the beginning of his tenure as the elected Member of Parliament from Kottayam Lok Sabha constituency.

Beyond his political roles, he has been actively involved in various social service clubs such as YMCA, Y’s Men International, and Lions Club International. He has served as the Kottayam District Co-operative Society's President and Vice-President of the New Bank of India Officers Association. He has also been the Secretary of the Bankers Club, Kottayam, and a Mahatma Gandhi University Senate member.
