She was the Union Minister of State, Ministry of Food in Narendra Modi's first tenure as PM and she held the portfolio of Union Minister of State, Ministry of Rural Development from 2019 to 2021.

However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Jyoti lost to Samajwadi Party's Naresh Uttam Patel by a small margin of around 30 thousand votes, marking her end of tenure in the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

Jyoti is known for her strong and unwavering commitment to the BJP's ideology of Hindutva, which emphasizes the preservation and promotion of Hindu culture.
