Navneet Kaur Rana, formerly an actress in the Indian film industry, transitioned into a political career and became a Member of Parliament from the Amravati constituency in Maharashtra.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Navneet's early career was in Telugu cinema, where she established herself as a notable actress.
After marrying Ravi Rana, she ventured into national politics by contesting in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a Nationalist Congress Party candidate, although she did not win.
However, she contested again as an Independent candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from the Amravati constituency in Maharashtra.
She emerged victorious, defeating Anandrao Adsul of Shiv Sena, with the support of the Indian National Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party,
But in June 2021, the Bombay High Court imposed a fine on her for submitting a fake caste certificate, specifically regarding her claim to the Mochi caste. This legal issue led to the cancellation of her caste certificate,
In April 2022, further controversy ensued when Navneet Kaur Rana and her husband were arrested by Mumbai police following a public demonstration where they insisted on reciting the Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, the residence of Uddhav Thackeray, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Their arrest led to a 14-day judicial custody, with Rana being detained at the Byculla women's jail.
