Nations should pressurise Nepal to resolve ongoing crises

January 08, 2016 6:00 am

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Senior Madhesi leader Rajendra Mahato has said that entire world including India should put pressure on Nepal to solve the ongoing Madhesi crisis. Madhesis have been protesting at border crossings with India to demand equal rights for their community after rejecting a government plan which they said did not meet their call for a redrawing of internal boundaries or offer adequate national representation. Mahato said that rights of Madhesis have been snatched by the Nepali government. Mahato, one of the top leaders of agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front, was flown to New Delhi last week after sustaining injuries during a protest on the Madhesi issue. Mahato said that despite making amends in the constitution the issue of Madhesis were not answered. Mahato added that political stability in Nepal was the need of hour and the solution for the Himalayan nation to progress. He further added that peaceful agitation would continue till the solutions are reached between the Nepali government and the Madhesis. The government has offered to amend the Constitution to include the provision of "proportionate inclusion" of minority groups in government institutions and carve out electoral constituencies on the basis of the population, the other two demands of the Madhesis.
